Saschiz Fortified Church

Saschiz Fortified Church was built in 1493 on a site of a former Romanesque basilica, being built of quarried stone. The Church is of a hall church type, a very wide and long hall with the choir closed on three sides. A brick defensive level was built above the hall and the choir accessed through two small brick towers on the western part of the church. The church is surrounded by a defensive wall. The fortified Church Saschiz is on the UNESCO Cultural Heritage List, and a peasant-like fortress is also found nearby in Saschiz. The peasant-like fortress was built in the 14th century and it is located on the hill near the church. We invite you to discover this distinct fortified church during our route.
