Enisala Fortress

Enisala Fortress is located in Dobrogea region, in the vicinity of the village Enisala at the cross of the water and land roads, built on the highest hill in the region between Babadag and Razim lakes. It was built by the Byzantine imperial power and Genovese commercial power in the late 13th century and early 14th century and it was subsequently included in the defense system of the Romanian Province. The fortress was later transformed into a garrison of the Ottoman Empire. The name of the fortress comes from the Turkish word "yen" (new), respectively the Dobrogea regionalism "sale" (settlement, village), meaning new settlement.
