Mraconia Monastery

Mraconia Monastery is located in a landscape of beauty that seems detached from a story. The monastery was founded in 1523 by the Severin Ban, Nicolae Garlisteanu. The church was rebuilt several times over the years due to its location, being placed in the way of the Ottoman army. Demolished by the communist regime, the church was rebuilt in 1990 on the left bank of the Danube River in a place called "la balon" at the point of vessels observation and control. Mraconia Monastery is a monastery for nuns, and if you look at it from the Danube, it may bear a resemblance to the Mount Athos monasteries.
