Mateias Mausoleum (Campulung)

The Heroes Mausoleum in Valea Mare-Pravat commune (near Campulung Muscel) is also known as the Mausoleum in Mateias and it is a very important monument dedicated to the heroes of the National Union War (1916-1918). The Central Powers advancement towards the Romanian Plain was stopped due to the fights carried out here by the Namaiesti Group, led by the General Traian Gaiseanu. The Mausoleum was built between 1928 and 1935 and the building consists of two units: a horizontal one where the bones of more than 2.300 Romanian soldiers are kept and a vertical one of a watchtower shape.
