Balea Lake

Balea Lake, located in the heart of Fagaras, is part of the natural reservation with the same name. Balea Lake area shows a glacial relief of moraine, terraces, and a U-shaped valley, dominated by the high peaks of over 2400 m. Balea Lake represents the highest point of the Transfagarasan road (2042 m), the second highest road in Romania (after Transalpina). The oldest document certifying the mountain climbing in Balea region was recorded around 1700 by Dr. G. Lidner.
