Saschiz Fortified Church
Saschiz Fortified Church was built in 1493 on a site of a former Romanesque basilica, being built of quarried stone. The Church is of a hall church type, a very wide and long hall with the choir closed on three sides. A brick defensive level was built above the hall and the choir accessed through two small brick towers on the western part of the church. The church is surrounded by a defensive wall. The fortified Church Saschiz is on the UNESCO Cultural Heritage List, and a peasant-like fortress is also found nearby in Saschiz. The peasant-like fortress was built in the 14
th
century and it is located on the hill near the church. We invite you to discover this distinct fortified church during our route.
