Coltesti (Rimetea) Fortress

Rimetea fortress is known also under the name Trascaului fortress, being positioned on a mountain ridge west to Coltesti village (Alba County). The fortress is over 750 years old and is one of the most attractive fortresses in Aiudului - Rimetea - Buru Valley. Thoroczkay family built this fortress after the Tatars invasion. Nowadays, you can still see the ruins of the old medieval Rimetea fortress on the crest of Trascau Mountain. Besides Rimetea fortress, other tourist attractions of the zone include the Ethnography Museum, the oldest house in the village (built in 1668) and the fortified church.
