Moldovita Monastery

Moldovita Monastery is one of the oldest monastic settlements, very important in terms of Moldavia history. The Painted Church of the Monastery is nowadays included in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage list. The origin of the monastery is not very clear, but the first mention of it dates back to the Musatin voivods and Alexandru cel Bun is the one who built the first church here. Moldovita church was built for the second time by Petru Rares, a few hundred meters distance from the old church. The Monastery Museum preserves today the 14th century manuscripts in which references are made to the organization of the monastic school and cultural activities.
